Industrialization Decade
      

      In, the 1880’s, big industrialization was started.  Companies, which exploded
on to the scene, became big industries. Immigrants went to the United States to find
better jobs, and a better opportunity for their families. Urbanization started to grow
In urban places like New York, tall skylines raised.  This was also the decade of
Assassination, of James Garfield, the 20th president.
      
      In 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was finished. A man named John A. Roebling,
a German- American engineer designed the Brooklyn Bridge. He built it by using
cables made out of steel. It was finally completed in 1883, people blasted fireworks,
And it lasted for an hour.

      James Garfield was the 20th president. He got an education at Williams’s college.
James Garfield was a major General in the army. He was also a member of the U.S-
House of Representatives, and also Electoral Commission in the year 1876. But, he
tragically died. He was assassinated by Charles Guiteau. Guiteau was a republican,
and he decided to kill Garfield in July 2, 1881. Guiteau, In a way he did mean to
assassinate him, he had thought he had to save he Republican party, and saved the
Republic. Guiteau stated this:
   
              “The president’s tragic death was a sad necessity,
                but it will unite the Republican party and save
                the Republic… I had no ill-will toward the
                President. His death was a political necessity.
                I am a lawyer, the Theologian, and politician.
                I am Stalwarts of the Stalwarts."

      In the late 1880’s Immigrant children had to go to school. But the teachers taught
Them more about the United States, they became more knowledgeable about the
American Culture. Americanization is what this was called. The teachers taught
The little kids English, history, and how to read.
         
       The era of Industrialization is what they would call this decade in the future.
Finishing the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. The assassination of James Garfield’s,
tragic death in the early 1880’s. And young Immigrant children, learn more
about the history of our countries.
