The 1980s was an era of new styles and techniques. In Art, many artists used abstract modes, which are geometric patterns and forms in women’s and men’s fashion and textiles from the nineteenth century. Other new styles artists today adapted from the 80s are called Neo-Geo, Neo-Expressionism, Graffiti and Appropriation. Another significant change was shown in music. Although disco was still popular in the early 1980s, new music genres formed, that includes pop and hip-hop and already existent hard rock, heavy metal, big hair bands and Glam metal gained the recognition they deserved.
      Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Fransisco Clemente were some artists that were popular during the 80s. Wealthy upper class Americans, particularly in New York city  In music, musicians such as Abba, Madonna and Michael Jackson were and still are very influential throughout the entertainment industry.
       One popular artist from the 1980s was Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was born on Dec. 22, 1960 in Brooklyn New York. He first got his start as being graffiti artist and gone on to become a Neo-Expressionist artist.
      Micheal Jackson was one of the most significant musician in he World. He was born on Aug. 29. 1958 and was known as being the “King of Pop”. He was also a hip-hop and contemporary R&B artist. His music techniques influenced a whole new generation and are still influencing new artists.
      In conclusion, the 1980s was very important and was the beginning for the music and art attracting the youth today.
